Maggi diet (egg diet): rules, effects, products, menu, contraindications

The Maggi diet is a type of egg diet. The menu covers 4 weeks. The promoters assure that the result can be the loss of 8 to 25 kilograms. A contraindication to the Maggi diet is an allergy to eggs or citrus fruits.

The Maggi diet is a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Legend has it that it was created for the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher, who is said to have lost a lot of weight using this diet. The name of the diet refers to the diminutive form of the politician’s name. The diet does not count calories, the most important thing is to follow the rules and specific products. Moderate exercise is recommended during the treatment.

Principles of the Maggi diet

  • The Maggi diet lasts 4 weeks.
  • Eat your meals 3 times a day, preferably at the same time.
  • Snacks are allowed, but no sooner than 2 to 3 hours after the main meal. Vegetables are recommended as snacks: cucumber, carrot, lettuce.
  • Eat your last meal at least 3 hours before going to bed.
  • Do not substitute ingredients between meals. If you missed a grapefruit at breakfast, do not eat it with your lunch. Ignore it and complete the next menu item.
  • Produce cannot be substituted for other items in meals. If you don’t want to eat an item, skip it.
  • Drink at least 2 liters of water a day. If you are overweight, even 3 liters are recommended. It is okay to drink tea, herbal teas, and coffee, but without adding sugar and milk.
  • Avoid frying as a method of meal preparation.
  • Do not use artificial flavor enhancers.
  • Get moderate physical activity. A daily walk of 40 to 60 minutes is recommended. You can also work out at the gym or participate in fitness classes.
  • If you break any of the rules, there is no need to continue the diet.

The effects of the Maggi diet

Maggi diet followers assure you that you can lose weight from 8 to 25 kg depending on your starting weight.

After the end of the Maggi diet, it is recommended to gradually introduce the forbidden products in the menu, for example potatoes or fried meat.

A quick return to old eating habits can lead to digestive problems and can also lead to a yo-yo effect.

Nutritionists are skeptical about the Maggi diet. It is a very restrictive weight loss treatment that can lead to nutritional deficiencies and other health problems. The Maggi diet requires strict adherence to a certain list of recommended and forbidden products. The recommended products – because of the high amount of protein – suppress the feeling of hunger, while vegetables and fruits provide vitamins and minerals, and whole-grain bread – dietary fiber.

Maggi diet products are selected to help burn fat in the body.

Recommended products:

  • vegetables and herbs – raw, boiled in water, steamed, boiled in water (without added fat);
  • fruits – especially citrus fruits, but also apples, cherries, kiwi;
  • dairy products – cottage cheese (0-5% fat), cheese (20% fat), yogurt, and kefir
  • lean fish and seafood – pollock, cod, perch, squid, shrimp
  • lean meat – boiled in water, steamed or cooked in water (similar to vegetables)
  • whole-grain bread – 1/2 slice per day;
  • spices and additives – salt, pepper, lemon juice, natural vinegar, e.g. apple vinegar, sugar-free soy sauce, garlic, onion
  • sugar substitutes – stevia, xylitol in moderate amounts.

Prohibited products:

  • potatoes;
  • legumes – including chickpeas and lentils;
  • all types of fats;
  • milk;
  • high-calorie fruits – avocados, bananas, grapes;
  • sugar – including honey, agave syrup, coconut sugar, maple syrup.

Maggi Diet – Menu

The Maggi diet menu is prepared for 4 weeks of use.

First week

During the first week of using the Maggi diet, eat 1-2 hard-boiled eggs and 1/2 grapefruit for breakfast each day.

Day 1.

  • Lunch: selected type of fruit allowed in any quantity.
  • Dinner: cooked lean meat, for example, beef + lettuce.

Day 2.

  • Lunch: steamed skinless chicken breast.
  • Dinner: 2 hard-boiled eggs + 1 grapefruit + salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, peppers – no dressing) + 1 whole-grain toast.

Day 3.

  • Breakfast: 1 piece of whole-grain bread toast + cheese (up to 20% fat) in any quantity + tomatoes.
  • Dinner: lean poultry + lettuce.

Day 4.

  • Breakfast: selected type of fruit allowed in any quantity.
  • Dinner: lean pork + lettuce.

Day 5.

  • Breakfast: 2 hard-boiled eggs + steamed vegetables.
  • Dinner: lean beef + lettuce.

Day 6.

  • Lunch: one of the types of fruit (apple, orange, watermelon, apricot, pear, melon, kiwi) in any quantity.
  • Dinner: lean poultry + lettuce.

Day 7.

  • Lunch: steamed chicken without skin + steamed vegetables (carrots + peas or squash + beans).
  • Dinner: boiled or steamed vegetables.

Second week

In the second week of the diet – as in the first – you eat 1 to 2 hard-boiled eggs and half a grapefruit for breakfast.

Day 1.

  • Lunch: pork or beef + lettuce leaves.
  • Dinner: 2 hard-boiled eggs + lettuce + 1 grapefruit or orange.

Day 2.

  • Lunch: pork or beef + lettuce leaves.
  • Dinner: 2 hard-boiled eggs + lettuce + 1 grapefruit or orange.

Day 3.

  • Lunch: pork or beef + 1-2 cucumbers.

Boiled fish + lettuce + boiled vegetables.

Day 5.

Lean boiled meat + boiled vegetables.

Any fruit in any quantity at any time.

Fourth week

Day 1.

To be distributed throughout the day:

  • 1 quart of boiled chicken (skinless) or 4 slices (about 200 g) of lean meat (baked or cooked),
  • 1 can of tuna in water
  • 4 cucumbers,
  • 2-4 tomatoes,
  • 1 piece of whole-grain toast
  • 1 grapefruit or 1 orange.

Day 2.

To be distributed throughout the day:

  • 4 slices (about 200 g) of lean meat (baked or cooked),
  • 4 cucumbers,
  • 3 tomatoes,
  • 1 slice of whole-grain toast
  • 1 slice of melon,
  • 1 grapefruit or 1 orange
  • 1 apple or 1 pear.

Day 3.

To be distributed throughout the day:

  • 1 package of low-fat cottage cheese,
  • 200 g of low-fat cheese,
  • boiled vegetables (no potatoes),
  • 1 piece of whole-grain toast
  • 2-3 cucumbers,
  • 2 tomatoes,
  • 1 grapefruit or 1 orange.

Day 4.

To be distributed throughout the day:

  • half-cooked chicken (without skin),
  • 1 cucumber,
  • 3 tomatoes,
  • 1 whole-grain toast
  • 1 grapefruit or 1 orange.

Day 5.

To be distributed throughout the day:

  • 2 hard-boiled eggs,
  • 3 tomatoes,
  • salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, peppers – no dressing),
  • 1 grapefruit.

Day 6.

To be distributed throughout the day:

  • 2 boiled chicken breasts,
  • 100 g of lean cottage cheese or cheese,
  • 2-3 cucumbers,
  • 2 tomatoes,
  • 1 piece of whole-grain toast
  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • 1 grapefruit or 1 orange.

Day 7.

To be distributed throughout the day:

  • 2 packages of low-fat cottage cheese,
  • 1 can of tuna in water
  • 2-3 cucumbers,
  • 2 tomatoes,
  • 1 piece of whole-grain toast
  • boiled vegetables (no potatoes),
  • 1 grapefruit or 1 orange.

Contraindications to the Maggi diet

A contraindication to the use of the Maggi diet is an acute allergy to eggs, citrus fruits, or dairy products.

It should also not be used by people with kidney disease, kidney stones, gout, as well as children, teenagers, pregnant and nursing women.

It may also be harmful to people with digestive problems.
