The properties of figs are invaluable – they are a fruit rich in dietary fiber, B vitamins, calcium, potassium and magnesium. Interestingly, figs contain compounds that increase libido. Use dried figs as a healthy substitute for candy.

When you buy dried figs, remember that they must be soft. We don’t have to worry about the white coating on the fruit – it’s not mold, but sugar that signals that the fruit is moist, juicy, and soft.

1- Figs – properties

Figures contain vitamins C, B 1, B 2, B 6, PP, as well as provitamin A. They are also rich in minerals such as iron, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. Due to their high iron content, figs are effective in fighting anemia.

Of all plants, figs are the richest in calcium – 100 grams of fruit have the same amount as a glass of milk; its action is reinforced by the phosphorus present in the fruit. It is not surprising that they are recommended for people with osteoporosis problems.

Thanks to the magnesium content, they reduce stress; moreover, these fruits strengthen the heart and coronary vessels and prevent cancer – especially of the intestines and breasts.

If your cholesterol level is high, figs will help you reduce your blood cholesterol level. On the other hand, those boiled in milk will soothe sore throats and help fight coughs.

Ficus fruits have a strengthening and antibacterial effect, so it is recommended to drink fig tea to boost immunity. Interestingly, they can also be useful for those who are struggling with smoking.

Not only the fruit of the fig, but the entire plant has a number of healing properties, for example, the fig juice that flows out after the bark is “wounded” helps to heal wounds, and fig leaf tincture is recommended for asthma sufferers as it reduces shortness of breath.

In addition, thanks to the content of vitamin B6 and potassium, figs are recommended during periods of fatigue, boredom, and stress.

3- Figs – calories

100 g of dried figs contain a lot of calories – one fig has about 47 kcal (249 kcal / 100 g).

Fresh figs, of course, have fewer calories – 74 kcal per 100 grams.

Dried figs have the highest content of dietary fiber found in fruit. Thanks to this, they support the work of the intestines, prevent constipation and, in addition, act as a mild laxative.

However, it should be remembered that they contain a lot of sugar (up to 75% of figs are glucose and fructose), so diabetics should limit these fruits and eat them with products with a low glycemic index because figs themselves can cause fluctuations in blood sugar.

Use dried figs in cakes, compotes, desserts, add them to teas. Use them as a replacement for high-calorie snacks such as bars or peanuts. And fresh fruit can be used for preserves and jams or served as an appetizer with camembert.
